‘STEP
UP’ YOUR GAME!
Gone are the days when men proudly owned only two pairs of
shoes: formal shoes for work, and a pair of sandals or sneakers for the weekend. The
contemporary man has started showing a resemblance, in his attitude towards footwear, to what is stereotypical associated with women. With the many options now available, men
are becoming increasingly conscious about the importance of footwear. Today, a man’s shoe rack clearly
depicts the time and thought he has invested in buying each pair.
Though men’s footwear has a long way to go before it
becomes a ‘rule-free’ category, the scope of what is acceptable has certainly
broadened. We have compiled a list of shoes that every man should have in
his wardrobe. For
the non-obsessed this will be a good initiation, and for the already-converted,
a nice check list.
Loafers - Loafers are considered as one of the most versatile and stylish shoes in
the market. Simple yet effective, they suit a wide variety of occasions, and
adapt to multiple looks. This season, go for the ever-popular leather loafers
with tassels. Wear a pair to smarten up your regular attire (jeans and a casual shirt) or complement your tailored outfits.
Boat Shoes - Perfect for summers, boat shoes should be your ‘go to’ with your shorts and T-shirts.
They also work great with chinos and turned up jeans. Wear a cotton
suit and a plain polo
shirt to further complement
these shoes.
Quick Style Tip – Loafers, boat shoes, and boots, look great in black,
brown, oxblood, tan, navy, brown, and red.
Brogues – This one is
a timeless classic. Brown
is the colour when it comes to brogues. You can go
for a tan or oxblood pair, or simply a chocolate
brown. They will look awesome with a formal suit, and are a smooth way to smarten up your jeans. Just make sure the fit of your jeans suit the brogues – baggy
pants are a big NO!
Boots – Boots have been an all-time favourite of
fashionistas across the world. It is pretty easy to style them up. You can wear
them with everything except shorts. Be it ankle boots, biker boots
or hiking boots, they are
definitely the preppiest.
Sneakers – Functional, cool, and comfortable, you can’t
afford to not own a pair of sneakers. Try keeping it simple, and avoid the ones with excess detailing. If you
like to experiment, then get a pair with contrasting laces. A pair of black sneakers with blue/green
laces, or
white sneakers with neon coloured laces will look cool.
